Jeep Cherokee XJ · UK dealer brochure
What Was the Cherokee?
[DRAFT] The Cherokee XJ arrived in Britain in 1993 as an official right hand drive import, a compact unibody 4x4 with a 4.0 litre straight six or a 2.5 litre turbodiesel, sold through franchised Chrysler Jeep dealers until the KJ replaced it in 2001.
[DRAFT] Second paragraph: what made it different from the Land Rover Discovery and the Japanese alternatives, who bought it, and what it cost new.
[DRAFT] Third paragraph: the facelift, the special editions, and the final years.
[DRAFT] Fourth paragraph: what happened after 2001, and why most of them are gone.

Most UK XJs are gone. AutoCensus resolves each DVLA Cherokee entry to its generation and counts the XJ on its own. The result: fewer than 1,400 XJs still licensed on UK roads, 1,327 at the 2025 count, with a further 3,573 registered but declared off the road. Of the 4,900 still on the register, only about 27.1% are actually in use.
